Day 3- Infection

February 23rd, 2012 [Infection]
It's 2:40 am. Earlier I ended up packing only the essentials. My laptop and charger to keep you guys updated on the situation. My tooth paste and toothbrush. I packed some clothes and grabbed all the jackets I could find in the house, in case I had to sleep outside. I grabbed my sneakers as well because these boots would just drag me down if I had to run from some of the people from the riots. Once I had gathered all that I needed I walked out the front door. I made sure to not look back in case I changed my mind because I knew this wasn't a smart idea. I walked back down the street to find that women's corpse gone. I saw a blood trail leading from where she was laying to the back of the nearest house. Instantly fear took over me and I threw all my stuff onto the passenger seat and started the car. I peeled out from stomping on the gas pedal so hard. Once I had gotten out of my neighborhood I took a right onto canyon road. I didn't bother using my signals because I had bigger things to worry about. I didn't see any traffic so the drive was an easy one, I couldn't help but think about what had happened to that women's body. I then took a left onto Highland Highway, little did I know was that this right turn was gonna be my first taste of the bitter Hell the world has turned into. I was driving on the highway for no more a few minutes when I started to hear screams from the distance. At first they were quiet but after a few more minutes passed by it grew louder and I could hear even more screams. I was passing the local grocery store where I worked called Kholars, It looked like something I would have dreamed in a night terror. People were killing and eating each other like I had seen on the news yesterday. people being dragged out of their cars and ripped to shreds by the what seemed insane people. I even saw a little girl eating the remains of a stray dog. I stomped on my gas pedal and got the hell out of there, flying down the road at 85 mph. The fear of what I had just witness began to make me sick. Unfortunately,  I didn't have the luxury of feeling sick, so I sucked it up and continued on. I turned on the radio to calm my nerves and what I heard sent chills down my spine. It was a broadcast. It was saying that the there was a virus going around causing people to grow violent and cannibalistic, It also stated to stay away and not come in contact with the infected. It was also warning me to stay inside and board up the windows and doors. It sounded like the military had put it up on the radio to warn us.  Things just got worse from here, cars were run off the road and in some cases on fire. There were corpses laying around on the sides of the road with the infected feasting on some.  I eventually came across a sheriffs car upside down on the side of the road. I decided to pull over on the other side of the road and take a look inside to find something to protect myself. I opened my door and took a look at my surroundings. There was one that was about 400 feet away up the street. I walked around the car to see if there was anything hiding behind it or in it. Nothing was there. I opened the car door and looked inside. I found a Glock 9mm Pistol in the back as well as a bullet proof vest. I grabbed both and began to work my way back to the car when I saw that the infected that was up the street now much closer then before. It was a man in his late 20's. I armed myself with the pistol I had found and checked to see if it was loaded, thankfully it was. I began to run back to my car hoping that he wouldn't see me. I didn't even make it halfway across the street when I heard an inhuman screech come from him. I looked over to where he was, he was sprinting at full speed towards me. I raised my gun and shouted "stay back or I'll shoot!" It didn't even phase him. he was within 30 feet and not stopping. I shot several rounds. He fell to the ground without a sound. I had killed him. I walked back to my car and sat in the drivers seat, tossed the vest and gun in the back and thought about what I had done. I was in shock, I had actually killed someone, they could have ad a family. I started the car and continued on. It began getting dark so I decided to take a dirt road that  took me far out of sight of the highway so I could rest. There was no way I was gonna travel to Salt Lake City at night, I needed the as much light as possible so that I can see farther ahead. I continued down that road till I found a nice grove of trees that gave my car cover so I could get some rest for tomorrow. I set my alarm on my phone so that tomorrow I could get up and be ready to get back on the road.

I killed a man today. I feel horrible about it but I had to do what I had to do to survive. I need to find my family and get to safety. That sick feeling I had earlier is starting to come back. I organized the food and supplies I had and determined that I have enough food for a few weeks. I'm gonna get some rest.

I'll keep you guys updated
Goodnight

Day 2- Preparation

February, 22 2012 [Preparation]
It's 10:00 and still no sign of my family, I can finally  see clearly down the street out of my window. I can still see the women on the ground down the street, it's difficult to see but I don't see the two men. This isn't a good sign. I'm gonna go outside to see if I can find any clues on what happened last night. I grabbed my jacket and threw my boots on because it had snowed the other night.  As I walked down stairs and unbolted the front door, I began to ponder what could have happened playing out diffrent scenerios in my head. I opened my door to see if the coast was clear, no sign of anyone. I walked out and made sure to leave the front door unlocked for when I returned. I started walking down the street to the woman's car, but as I was walking I noticed a lot of my neighbors front doors were open, and a few of their cars missing. I'm assuming most of them had packed through out the day yesterday and left, I wonder why though? Did I miss something? finally I was at her car and what I saw will be burned into my mind for years to come. Blood was everywhere, It smelled terrible. There she was on the ground her organs exposed as though someone had ripped her open and gnawed on her ribs. I had never seen such a disturbing sight as this.  I puked.  I looked in her car and saw keys in the ignition as well as blood on the driver and passenger seat and blood sprayed all over the drivers dash and steering wheel. The gas tank was 3/4 full. In the back I could see a bunch of food and other supplies and a tent with 2 sleeping bags. It seems she was on her way out of town too. I grabbed one of the sleeping bags and unraveled it. I unzipped it and laid it down on her, covering her. As I was standing there I began to to think about the situation at hand.  It's been 16 hours since my family said they would be back. I'm gonna search for them. I went home and filled a bucket with hot soapy water and a bottle of Clorox. I traveled back to the car and cleaned off all the blood. Once I had cleaned it I headed back to home and grabbed my notebook. I flipped it to an empty page and wrote "I'm out searching for you guys, I'll be back tomorrow around 12:00 pm." I then went upstairs and began to pack my things.

I'll be heading to Salt Lake to find them, If they weren't they would have been home by now.  I'll be packing my laptop and keeping you guys updated on what happens. I hope they are alright. I'm still struggling wither this is reality or a nightmare.

I'll keep you updated

Day 2- Screams

February 22, 2012  [Screams]
It's 2:05 am, and I just woke up to screams outside. This time I'm sure it's not my neighbors dropping any lamps. I kept my lights in my room off so I can see down the street. I couldn't make out anything except for a parked car in the middle of the street and what seemed to be a women being dragged out of it by two men. She seemed to be putting up a fight. I had two choices. Either go out and help her, or wait and hope the panic goes away. I decided to wait it out. Another good minute or two and the screams stopped. I looked back out my window and saw that the two men were hunched over her. I couldn't figure out what they were doing, after watching them for a few more seconds I looked away and walked down stairs to make sure my front door was locked. I even locked the door into my garage for good measure. I didn't want to draw attention, so I didn't turn on a single light.  I then walked back upstairs and locked my own door.

I'm sitting here trying to figure out if this is reality or just a nightmare. I'll let you guys know if anything else happens in the morning, I'm planning on going outside to see what happened when daylight breaks. I wonder what I'm gonna find and If I see those two men, I certainly hope I don't. I'm not gonna be getting any sleep tonight, that's for sure. I don't think I'm going to go in for work tomorrow.

Day 1- Where are they?

February 21, 2012  [Where are they?]
My name is Peter Martinez, I woke up this morning to the sound of the TV downstairs in the living room. I was dead tired due to the fact that I heard strange noises outside my window all night. I looked at the time and it was 2:30 in the afternoon.  I stumbled out of bed to grab something to eat and as I was walking to the kitchen I noticed that I haven't seen my sister nor my dad yet. I looked in every room and called for my family but no one answered and decided that nobody was home. I then went to the kitchen to fix myself something to eat, but then noticed a note on the counter stating "We left for lunch, we'll be back at 6:00". I was struggling to decide whether to eat a bowl of cereal or a bowl of oatmeal. I decided oatmeal. As I was working my way back to my room I passed by the living room where I heard a News Caster on the TV sound panicked. It sparked my interest so I decided to sit on the couch and listen to what he had to say. "It seems as though a riot is taking place! The death toll is increasing like mad, It looks as though people are eating each other down there! " I was astonished at what I was seeing. I was witnessing a live stream of Salt Lake City from a helicopter, where people were eating each other. At that moment I dropped my bowl of oatmeal and grew frantic. Where was my dad? where is sister? I need to find them now. I ran up to my room and snatched my phone from my dresser and called my dad which sent me strait to voice mail. I attempted to call my sister as well but to no avail. I was praying that they didn't go to their favorite restaurant down in Salt Lake. I calmed myself down and reassured myself that everything would be fine. I walked back down stairs to see what was going on with that News Caster. It was all Static. I switched to the other News stations but they were Static too. as I was flipping through the channels I heard blood curdling scream coming from outside. I froze. I was struggling with myself trying to determine what to do. I ran to my window to see what the situation was. It turned out that It was just my neighbors packing their things things our to their car. It looked like one of them dropped a lamp on their foot. I didn't know they were moving, I wonder where they are going? I then walked back to the couch and proceeded to wait for my family.

It's been 3 hours. 9:00 already and still no sign of them. I'm beginning to worry about them. I have work tomorrow so I should get some sleep, I don't want to be late again. I have a bad feeling about the events to come, so I'll be keeping a blog to keep record of these such events.

i'll be keeping you updated.
Good Night.
